mood: between cheery and erm...i dunno what
listening to: jaded - aerosmith
and so, as with most late week-night mamak sessions, one (that's me) has been inspired.
to do what?
to catalogue all the "inner-circle" lingo i've used over the years, lest i forget them. and at the rate i'm going...that would be when i'm 26. heh*
PART I
(Readers' discretion is advised at all times)
C.M.I. (see-yem-mai) - cannot make it. supposedly originating from the kiasuland (read: singapore). used to describe anything from a bloke whose looks can't cut it, to a dress that's way too short for stumps for legs, to tasteless food, to shitty work, to...well...anything that doesn't suit your fancy basically.
H.K.M. (houh-korh-mow) - houh-korh-mow in cantonese. courtesy of s.m.chua (a.k.a. chu). meaning literally better than nothing. situational examples of usage include having nasi-lemak for breakfast, instead of nothing at all; turning to the crooked path, instead of not getting laid at all; getting a 5% discount, instead of nothing at all; you get my drift.
A.R.F. (arf!) - amazonian rain forest. originating from a group of people who were studying in bristol. has biblical roots, something to the tune of "why do you see the speck in your brother's eye, when there's a log in yours?" - a.k.a. pot calling kettle black. in this case, instead of using a log, we chose to replace it with amazonian rain forest for dramatic effect. over time, spelling it out just took too damn long, so we just resorted to saying "arf". basically used whenever you're the kettle that the pot is calling black. best used like a bit of a bark with some bite ;)

ok. time for bed. stay tuned for part II! (can't promise it'll be the next post though....heh*)
