BIG recommendation!

just got back from a wine cellar located in damansara heights called "vintry" - it's a few doors down from the rib shop, behind victoria station along jalan damansara. from the outside, it looks pretty much just like any other wine shop you get around town, but venture beyond several rows of shelving and you'll find yourself in a pretty nifty and cosy little area, fit for some casual dining, and loaaadds of wine (d.u.h.).

i'm definitely no wine connoisseur, but the selection tonight was yuuuuhhmeey..! first one was a "brightwater" - nice guava-ish taste, and was very refreshing. followed that with a "fallegro" which tasted like honey. that tasted pretty alright, it didn't match up to the first one but hey! anything fruity and easy to drink is my cuppa.

unbeknownst to all of us, the management informed us that fallegro was apparently a teensy bit "off" (after having a bit of a taste themselves when we expressed that we weren't too impressed) and they were gracious enough to strike that off the bill! mind you, more than half the bottle was gone by then..

anyway, next came a wine made from german grapes grown in australia (i forgot the name...sorry!) hrmm...i can't seem to recall what it tasted like... will update when i remember.

ended the night with a pink tinted "american bestseller". ah...strawberries. yum yum :) oddly enough, i started the night off with a declaration of "no wine for me tonight, thankyouverymuch!" heh*

the wine aside, the food was good, although the menu is somewhat limited. but you can't blame 'em cos it is primarily a wine place. must try: fried pork strips, fried tomyum ribs, money bags, seafood platter thingy, roasted pork (that's pretty much everything we ordered...notice the non-halal theme).

to top it all off, service was GREEEEAAATT! amiable hostess who played along with some of the.most.dire conversational topics of all time, striking off one bottle of wine off the bill, free cigars...and they even allowed us to order domino's pizza when the kitchen was closed (cue: "awwww...."). at any rate, they made it known to us that food could be ordered from neighbouring restaurants at no extra charge... swweeett.

and oh yeah...guess what? all of that amounted to less than RM50 per person (there were 6 of us).

great conversation (loads of silliness involved of course...), excellent company.

ah...what a night!
